All laquered up!

I've had college today so I apologize on my lateness of this post! But, I come bearing gifts! I picked up a nail polish today that my friend and I seen in a shop, to be quite exact, a Claire's shop. It's just a little nail polish, very cheap at £2 . 50, and I admit I had my qualms about buying it. Although it was cheap, I usually opt for the more expensive brands that I know make good nail polish. But I took a chance. It's called 'Claire's Cosmetics Chip Resistant' unfortunately, it doesn't have a cute name to go along with it. I thought that the bottle itself is quite small, 9ml. Well, small to what I usually get :)

But what drew me to this little bottle of polish was what was inside it. It had tiny bits of sparkles in, not like your average sparkles within the nail varnish either. It has big multi coloured sparkles in it, that's what really mesmerized me; I had to buy it!

Now putting it on was quite a challenge, and I've found that it is mixed with a clear polish so it could be placed over an already placed nail colour. As I was applying it I found that it goes on quite thick, even if I didn't mean it! And when it does go on, not many sparkles come out on your nail. I had to wait about 10-15 minutes between each coat as it takes a long time to dry. But I persevered! And ended up putting 3 coats on each nail. (Fingernails and toenails included) Now this is the funny bit, it looks absolutely gorgeous on my toe nails. I don't know whether it's because I have small toe nails therefore not as many coats are needed hence the more space the glitter takes up; resulting in perfectly sparkle covered toes. My hands however, are a different story. I've left giving them some more coats for now, as I'll be going to bed soon and don't want to get it all over my sheets, but tomorrow I'll definitely be applying some more! But even with 3 coats, they just don't look as covered as I'd like them to be. Here's what the result looks like;

The colours are cute, but it just doesn't work for me. Perhaps if I add some more coats? I don't know, but these are what I want my nails to look like, but I don't want it at the expense of breaking the bank! :(

I love nail polish, and I love sparkles. So the two combined is like heaven for me, literally. Oh! And before I forget, here's a little beauty tip for you!

{Beauty Tip #1}

If your nail varnish is taking a while to dry, wait a couple of minutes after apply the coat and dip them into a bowl of freezing cold water for about 25 seconds. (A running tap works too, but this way's better for the environment) Pull them out and shake, then leave them to dry naturally. Once that's done, hey presto! The cold water should have sped up the process of your nail polish drying :) Happy nail painting!

What's your favourite nail polish colour?

Mascara's on trial

Doing my make-up today with a towel wrapped around my head got me thinking, what's the one piece of make-up that I couldn't live without? Mascara. Now, if you girlies out there are anything like me, you're constantly on the hunt for that perfect one, you know, the one that will give you full and super long lashes without any clumps? Yeah, I thought so. I only ever buy waterproof mascara because otherwise I can guarantee that I'll end up with the dreaded panda eyes halfway through the day.  So I thought I'd share with you my favourite mascara's to date and which I would recommend to anyone.

#1 Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara - £10.99 - Boots

This is some kind of miracle worker. I must admit, I didn't like it when I first got it and I reverted to my other mascara (L'oreal Lash Architect 4D mascara) but once that ran out I decided to give this one another chance to redeem itself. After a second try I was pleasantly surprised! I think that leaving it for a while before I used it must of dried it out a little bit. (It was sitting in my make up bag for a good month and a half before I used it again). But I couldn't believe how much of a miracle worker this is, now I have pretty short and stumpy lashes without any mascara on so I'm hardly ever without it, but I couldn't believe how much longer and fuller they looked; and no clumps! I think it's to do with how big the brush end is, it really coats them efficiently and if you put on a couple of coats, you'll defiantly be ready to bat them lashes!

The only downfall? Prepare to fight it when it comes to taking it off.

{My Verdict; 9/10; Perfect! My every other day mascara}

#2 L'oreal Lash Architect 4D Mascara - £10.99 - Boots

I really like this one, and it was my substitute when I fell out with the False Lash one above. The wand itself, is very long and thin, which is perfect for getting into the corner and your outer lashes for that full coated look. I must admit that I think I killed mine off a little earlier than was needed because I made one of the most fatal mistakes when it comes to mascara; I didn't screw the lid on properly. Because it wasn't done up properly 95% of the time and left to dry out, it didn't improve like Lash Effect's, it just dried up. It dried up and went all crusty and crumbly, and no one wants that on their eyes! So if you're very good and put the lid back on properly, then I think that it would be a genuinely very good mascara for an everyday look.

The only flaw I could find with it is that I've found that it runs out relatively quickly, and because of the small wand you find yourself putting more and more coats on.

{My  Verdict; 7/10; Good while it lasts}

#3 Mac Zoom Lash Mascara - £14.00 - Selfridges

I love this mascara! Well, anything with 'MAC' on I love really. Although £14.00 seems a bit expensive for a mascara (well, to me it is anyway!) it is well worth it, although I didn't really pay for it. (My grandparents brought me some Mac make-up back from their trip to America for me) It doesn't dry out, and coats your lashes beautifully; every time. That's something I really have a problem with, especially on those days where nothing goes right, no matter how hard I try I can never get my eye make-up to go exactly the same! And on those days it can seem like the world is out to get you. But this mascara never seems to do that, it always behaves itself and is all around a good mascara, no clumps, no panda eyes, and no flakey bits left on your cheeks half way through the day!

I think this one is perfect for that everyday look, not too big on drama but not too little that you can't tell you're wearing any. I think this would be perfect for a quick trip to the gym, school college or just to the supermarket!

{My Verdict; 8/10; All around amazing, just a bit too expensive for me as an everyday one}

What's your favourite mascara and why?

Part One

I'm not usually a very positive person, and being confident about things and myself isn't something that I'm usually very good at.  People say it's not good for you, or for your health so one of my new years resolutions for 2012 is to try and see things in a better light.

So this is part one of a little series on 100 things that bring me happiness. I'm starting it today and will update every Saturday for 10 weeks. The little things are always the things we overlook, so I think it'll be good for all of us to remind ourselves about the little things in life that get us through the days.

#1 Having a lie in of a Saturday morning

#2 Reading a good book

#3 Baking and decorating cakes

#4 Freckles

#5 Watching my favourite TV show on the sofa

#6 Pretty tattoo's

# 7 Thunderstorms

#8 Psychology lessons

#9 The seaside

#10 Lazy days on rainy days

What makes you happy?

Rain: My favourite type of weather!

(This was written on 20/01/12 but was posted on my wordpress blog, I've just transferred it over to this one!)

Well it's been a miserable rainy day here in England. (As usual). And so instead of having a productive day of doing homework and revision, I've spent today hid away in my bedroom with my favourite person in the whole world, my boyfriend. We've had a ritual lazy day, which just so happen to be my favourite type of days! I have to say that these are by far the best way to spend rainy days that I have found, snuggled up in bed with someone to keep you warm, lots of munch (Like crisps, chocolate, ice cream and fizzy teeth rotting pop!) and rented DVD's from Blockbuster. So as I'm currently watching 'Rude Tube: The funniest mash-up's' on TV, I thought I'd share the films I watched and what I thought of them :)

The first film was 'The Thaw' by director Mark.A.Lewis, it's about four ecology students who venture out to a remote Arctic research station in search of one of the students fathers who were meant to meet them. Instead they discover a melting Woolly Mammoth within the ice, surrounded by the fathers camp. The only thing is, where's the dad? All that is found is graves so he is assumed dead. Unknowingly a deadly parasite was unearthed within the Mammoth and threatened the students lives as well as the human race. Will the parasite be contained or not? You'll just have to watch it! It has Bio - Terrorism, deadly parasites, violence and suspense. However, although this film was so so, I found myself disappointed. About 30-40 minutes into the film, possibly even 20, you can guess how this film would end, so I found myself  wishing the film would just hurry up and end so I can prove myself right.

The second film we watched was 'The Lazarus Project' by director John Glenn, a harrowing and frightening thriller about a man who has everything he's ever loved stripped away from him; and to earn his life and family back, he must face obstacles of mystical origins, endure countless tests of his faith, struggle with his own sanity, and explore the depth and the power of his soul. I urge you, watch this film! I had no idea how this film was going to end, it was beautifully psychological, and I found myself really wanting things to work out for him. It really connects to you, and especially with the dog so aptly named 'Dog'. Oh and that cutie on the front with the big blue eyes? Paul Walker, I'd watch it just to look at him and watch him talk if I'm perfectly honest.......A really worth while film!

'Daybreakers' by director Michael and Peter Spierig. Now I have to admit that I have a love for vampire and supernatural films and TV shows, True Blood and The Walking Dead being at the top of that list. But this was actually a pretty good film! 'In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind.' Now I think it's important to mention for any girls out there that need swaying, the lead role is played by the gorgeous Ethan Hawke! I really enjoyed this film, although my boyfriend fell asleep halfway through it, but that may just be because he doesn't really like this kind of film.....Anyway! Well worth a watch I say, a very good story!

So there you have it readers, 3 good films to make you forget all about the miserable weather raging outside, or if you're just looking for a good film to watch :) See you soon!

Hello? Yes this is Etty!

Hello world! :)

I'll let you in on a little secret. I've always liked been obsessed with blogs.
I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said that a vast amount of time that should be spent studying for important exams is in fact, being spent on reading blogs. Now I'm not too sure that this is what anyone intended to spend their days like, but for me, it's become a bit like a daily addiction.

^That up there is what I should be doing instead of reading funny and relate-able blog posts. So in an Einstein moment, I pondered. What if instead of reading the blogs, I would write a blog? And look where it's taken me. Here. This way I get to do something I've always wanted to do and be productive with my time - Instead of re-reading a post about how to hollow out old books and the uses for them.

So that's it really.

Etty. Age 18. Location: Coventry, England. A complete blog geek and proud.

Forget sunshine, healthy eating and sleeping patterns and social interaction. I want my blog.
